The only things we've ever thrown out are orange and lemon peels, banana peels, coffee grounds, eggshells, and once in a while some cooked veg's that we failed to eat the next day. These all go into our compost bin daily, so there is no waste. We freeze a lot (breads, etc) and take out only what we need for a few days. We also have two dogs who love leftover scraps (not that much) added to their homemade dog food. We buy the best quality and cannot afford to waste it.

Another food which can be put in the freezer is ripe yellow bananas.

I put them in the freezer with the peel left on.

The peel will turn brown over time, but the inner banana will stay ripe for months.

I then defrost them in the microwave on high for around 45 seconds, and they taste like banana ice cream.

Frozen bananas are also great for putting in protein shakes and smoothies. They blend really easily.

So if you find you have more yellow bananas than you can eat before they go bad, just freeze the ones you won't have time eat.

Or if you see a good sale on bananas, just buy a lot, and put the extras in the freezer after they turn yellow.
