Perhaps one of the best examples of GM's mess-ups was with their handling of Saturn. Now it's bye bye to the brand.

planned abortion my friend

gm: hey penske, you are one of the largest stakeholders in GM dealerships, post a fake bid to buy saturn to help our bailout go through, then back out at the last minute

penske: ok, but i want concessions, i want lots of taxpayer money to each dealership

gm: ok, hell it isnt ours anyways!

Good-bye and good ridance. Saturn has never turned a profit. Back in 2004 GM gets rid of Oldsmobile and keeps Saturn. Made a lot of sense.

Interesting. Shouldn't be a shock, should it?

But what are all the school teachers gonna drive now?

As much as I can't stand GM (mushy suspension) I cannot think of an econo-car 40 mpg replacement in their fleet,

I'll just bet the teachers switch to Toyota's

Maybe a subliminal hint will come to NEA cardholders from DC. (buy American, so they don't 'out-source' education)

Saturn's best idea was those plastic panels that don't rust, aside from that they look like hell. GM should have kept Olds and dropped Saturn. I'm not a domestic fan but if I had to own one it would be an Olds. Good old reliable steel.

I have a '99 Saturn SC-1 with 172,000 plus miles and it still gets between 36 and 40 mpg!

I wouldn't have minded having an Aura,Outlook, or especially a Skye. I still see quite a few SC scoupes running around here, and I always thought they were good cars.

Oldsmobiles were NOT selling, Saturns were. Not anymore though. Most cars from GM have poly body panels anymore. Good riddance to bad junk.

My first car was a 94 Saturn which I kept for 9 years. It was a pretty decent car.
