Bought an Ion Quad Coupe a few months ago, and found that it handled the mountains here with ease. Smoothest acceleration I have ever felt, and even handled hills on cruise control with ease (something regular cars with cruise control seem to be confounded by).
Discovered it has a Continuously Variable Transmission.
Great, I thought.
I didn't even know GM had ever made CV Transmissions.
I thought "every car should have one of these."
Then it began to slip. I did some research, and found that
GM CVT's have an extremely high failure rate. Bummer.
Worse, instead of fixing the problem, they let themselves be sued
over it, and dumped the whole project, leaving a legacy of lemons.
(Not by the legal definition, I guess)
So, now it's up for sale.
Live and learn, I guess.
I did a google search, but didn't know the car had a CVT.
Frankly I didn't know GM ever built anything with a CVT,
so I didn't think to look for that "feature."
You are right, though, I should have been more careful.
The rest of the car is in great shape though, and it is for sale: cheap.
(I am too old and broken down to be replacing a transmission.)
