Were these American made/designed, or were they captive imports?
Designed/engineered domestically and built in Wilmington Delaware. (Cool production process too, hydro formed instead of regular stamped body panels, and a rather short "line." I had the pleasure to tour the plant while they were producing these).
They shared a dedicated platform just for these two cars. The Solstice came about from a 2002 concept car which initially was not production intent.
The Sky first appeared as an Opel concept car which was made to be based on the new platform under development for the Solstice a couple years later, and then was refined to be sold as a Saturn Sky, Opel GT in Europe (an export) and even a Daewoo badged version exported to Korea.
The Solstice was on sale for the 2006 MY, the Sky/Opel/Daewoo first appeared in 2007. They all died in 2010 when the Saturn and Pontiac brands got the axe.
I know who has the last Saturn Sky produced......wish I was in position to buy one when they were built....just no use for a two seater at this stage in life
