At least your roommate didn't take your furniture, appliances, or landscaping. Some of them do. I'd say, "Good riddence!"

Well, he took dishes, pots and pans, silverware and food... but that's not a big deal. I've decided to take him to court after I verify he's still employed (I'm going to do a drive by of his workplace to see if his car is there) and I found a person to follow him and find out his new address, plus serve him when necessary.) It's only $35 to file, and my workplace is allowing me to take flex time for the court date so I won't be out any wages.

You might just end up spending good money chasing bad...

Find a new roommate, and next time get a security deposit.

I know, I've thought about that... but I really can't let $500 slip by without a fight... it's only $35 for the filing fee and I'm not losing any wages, so I think it's better fo me to go through with the small claims case. Plus, me and my boyfriend have decided not to rent the room out again, because we haven't interviewed even a single person who seems decent. So, we're going to re-do our budget and just rent the room to ourselves. It might be nice to have a second guest bedroom anyway
