Well Halloween is not far off and our apartment neighbors have told us of their plans for an outdoor party in the community patio yard area. (we're in FLA).
They prefaced informing us of their plans by saying, we wanted to let you know so you wouldn't complain.
They went on to say they plan on inviting people over on the 31st, drinking alot and "saying alota cuss words". And then they told us, as part of the evening, they are staging a fight in the yard right outside our living room windows. Some neighbor guys from the next building fight on the side, as a past-time.
It's a "tradition" says the neighbor, which he started a couple years ago. Didn't you know? Hadn't you heard the fight last year on Halloween? Huuuuuuuuuh????? nooooo.
Taken aback at the thought of an organized fight on top of the rest of the "party", we asked if this was to be a drinking induced brawl, an exhibition fight, for money or what. We got no clear answer. But now we are informed, said they.
After sleeping on it, we are wondering, whether we implicitly become involved in it, by being informed and not complaining, whether the landlord should be informed, ... whether we want to find another venue for that long turbulant night or WTF.
We could join in but, don't find it appealing, nothing personal.
It might be a really good time to take a small vacation and be out of town. I would not want to be part of all that mess just in case the "stage" blows up into an all out brawl. If you leave Wednesday after work and come home say Sunday afternoon you should be good and well rested for the first full work week in November.
If this were private property, I'd have no problem. But since this is a shared area, and the party is right outside your window, I'd let the building manager know, as well as place a call to the police.
Should you allow by not objecting to this display of stupidity and disrespect for your rights, what do you do when informed of the "Three Rounds for the New Year", Fat Tuesday head bashing or the Irish brawls? or when it becomes an every Friday occurrence or a 36 hour noise-a-thon?
I would not be comfortable with this going on outside my home... particularly if I made plans to be away that night. What if damage happens? Who's responsible? What kind of a mess are they going to leave? What if they set fire to something?
Fighting + drinking = the potential for all kinds of hell to break loose.
Call the police now (you likely don't even have to leave you name) and let them know what is being planned. Ask them to drive by and check on things that night. That way, no blame can be put on you for "tattling"... you still have to live next door to these people.
