Still I suppose maybe there could be an interesting cultural thing on this as there are many religions that discourage men from shaving. Considering how cuts could lead to infection, back in the day, I wonder if maybe it just seemed safer to have a well-maintained beard than to shave often. Or possibly it represented the idea of sexual differentiation. A beard is something men can grow but women, usually anyway, can't. Many traditional religions emphasize that there are differences between men and women. Or it could be just showing acceptance of the body you were given. Shaving could be seen as trying to change your body to fit fashion, allowing the beard to grow is more "natural." I believe in some cultures women are discouraged from shaving their legs or armpits for similar reasons.
Q: Why do muslim men have beards?
A: To follow the teachings of prophet Muhammad(pbuh). All prophets from Adam(pbuh) through to Muhammad(pbuh), had beards, including Jesus(pbuh), Moses(pbuh), Noah(pbuh) and Ibrahim(pbuh).
Antlered Chamataka (pbuh) can grow a beard, but my harem will not appreciate it. It can add 15 years to my age
Beards are where it's at. Even I am sporting one these days.
But if you want the real, cultural anthropology reason, it's because beards are a symbol of cultural and/or religious identity for some groups. It screams: "HEY, I'm a Hassidic Jew!, Muslim, ect" to the world.
The beard / BoRoda ( slavs ) is a symbol. Riches of a sort / Bogatstvo Roda. To cut off a beard = to cut off communication with last generation. The more long the Beard, the is more Sort generation. Also. A Sort/Rod - the general ancestor. From it there is a tree of generations.
