SWV, as to your op, I will say "Been there, done that" Looks like most do go through that..Society tells us that when we turn 18 we are considered adults and more or less are expected to be completely mature in our thoughts, beliefs and actions when the clock strikes 12:01 on that day Pretty big responsibility, huh..Take it easy on yourself, I went through years of questioning, then followed everyone elses idea about what religion and beliefs I should follow, which brought me no satisfaction and caused me more heartache and sorrow..God has time..and more patience than we do....Just maintain an open link through prayer between yourself and God and He will provide the tools you need..It will give you a wonderful lesson in patience In the meantime, enjoy your youth..It won't wait around for you to catch up

Hey man I can relate to how you feel, your on the path of great adventure. It might be stressful now but do research into both why people believe in god and why they don’t (this forum is a great start) or even other religions and you will learn a great many thing about other people and why they believe or don’t believe and in turn will be able to make your own decision, I am 24 and have seen a great deal for my age. I have spent the last 5 years and got 2 bachelors degrees while in the Marines not only do you meet many Americans from all walks of life and religions you go to many countries where they have different perspectives on life and religion.

You just have to remember this one thing, remain OPEN MINDED and don’t let any one tell you there way is the right way. You have to remember people tend to believe what there raised with and won’t go to any length to find the truth because it’s a dark world and they like there like perfect box they live in. In the end you will see what you are and what you can become by just remaining open.

I can understand how you could feel the way you do, my Mother is also very religious. When I about your age or maybe a little younger I went through something similar but I reached the point when I realized that religion is not based on reality and recognizing that fact made me an atheist.
Well I had doubts when I was younger, but I push forward and made myself obvious to God. It was at that time when God started to make Himself obvious to me. It was then when I realized that God is reality.

Whenever I go to church I get this feeling that I understand what the pastor is preaching but I have a hard time getting it through and inside my mind.

My mother is a devout CHRISTIAN and I asked her once and she told me to pray, I prayed and I still feels the same.

And whenever I declare myself a Deist or Agnostic it doesn't feel right.

Is this just something I'm going through? My mother also said when you're around my age which is 18 you will go through doubt in believing in God.
it sounds like you believe in god...but just don't believe in what your church believes. religion is the effect of a connection with "god" not the cause

my phase basically just went to regular church goer to non church goer... but i never EVER let go of God in my life... i feel like im hanging by a thread with my relationship with HIM.. but i still feel secure.. knowing HE is always ALWAYS will be with me. Believing in HIM gives me hope, makes me feel secure.

what i dont get though is the usual story or advice that boy meets girl ALWAYS on church services.. i dont get it coz.. how can you? well. maybe coz im always late to church and usually leaves before the mass end.. but.. how can you meet people at church?? that boggles me no end. i mean church is a people watch venue now???
