Here is a picture of Shiva, sitting in the yogic posture of padmasana or full lotus, his eyes are serene with the inner peace which comes from the feeling of unity with god that is aroused during yoga meditation, his spiritual eye is fully opened thanks to his constant and devoted practice of sadhana (spiritual discipline) the tiger skin where he is sitting symbolizes the mind, which is like a tiger, Shiva is sitting over it because he has achieved total control of it.
His left hand with his palm open is the Abhaya "No-fear" Mudrā (posture) which represents protection, peace, benevolence, and dispelling of fear.
Fear is the opposite of Faith, so don't fear, just have faith in whatever inspires divinity in you, true Faith is not blind, but something that grows with the repeated experience of God felt in your spiritual discipline.
Hey TF,
Why the cobra around the neck, and what is the symbol marked on the right hand?
I also noted the fountain coming from the top of the head.

Because cobras are so common in India, it's no surprise that they are a part of Indian/Hindu culture. Most "snake charmers" are from India. That is the symbol for Hinduism, on the right hand. Notice it's also in the background, to Shiva's left.

I'm going to throw this in here and maybe cause you to think in another direction when it comes to faith and fear. Fear is the cause of faith, stop and think about that, fear of the unknown causes one to have faith in a creator to explain the unknown. Just something to think about.

Good argument.
Alltough I would "only" agree with that 99.9%.
I would say that fear is one of the causes of faith. Lack of understanding and denying the most probable are two other reasons that causes people to, for example, turn hope into faith.
