But then again, maybe it's good for people to have a role model (in their head). So maybe it should be left that way? If there wasn't one, people would just do whatever they wanted and that wouldn't be good... Because letting people do whatever they want is like parents leaving their teenagers in charge of the house and going on vacation for 2 weeks.

I see the big picture. God with infinite knowledge knew the outcome of creation and the evil that would be a part of it. And God went through with it in perfect resolve. Because God knew of the mistakes that would occur. And what did God do? God still laid down his life since the foundation of the world. That is perfect to me.

I think the goal is hard enough, but attainable when you look at what goal was set: the "be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect" passage was in relation to His perfect love. Look at it again there in the last few verses of Matthew 5.

Being perfect in love, or having concern for the well-being of everyone is not as much of a stretch as bei ng perfect in everything. That may be a worthwhile aspiration, but demonstrably doomed and therefore discouraging rather than encouraging. Looking at people as human, wth essentially the same needs as you is more attainable even when those needs are expressed in twisted and self-defeating ways.

Default Be perfect like God? good news-God wasn't perfect

::Sigh:: The word translated as "perfect" does NOT mean what the word perfect means in English!!! IT simply means "mature." We are to become mature in agape love like God our Father . . . not some unattainable perfection!!

You follow the Bible well. The Bible says that you have to become like little children.... in order to enter... (in order to believe).

Your post has very little to do with your thread title. Can you demonstrate that God isn't perfect?
