Please don't think that this is religious bashing. I am only posting an article that appeared in a paper. It is so hard for me to believe, and I can understand why some psychologists think that fundamentalism can be a mental illness.

There are strange things in every religion, aren't there?

In my opinion, religious fundamentalism of any stripe is not only a threat to mental health, it is the single most dangerous threat to mankind.

Please don't attribute this to religion or Christianity in general.

This is general bad behavior using religion as the vehicle to advance themselves illegally.

This behavior spanned continents. I don't attribute it to the religion, in general. I think it is extreme, but even the thought that this behavior is contemplated is too much for me.

It's such a different culture.

Why don't the husbands just give the wives a divorce? What do they gain by staying married with an unhappy wife? Do they refuse the get because they don't want her to ever be able to remarry?

One wife wanted a divorce because her husband did not want children. Is this the truth or a story she told to solicit rough behavoir in getter her divorce? Do people just assume that they will have children if they marry and so are later disappointed?

Have people ever been killed in this sort of scenario? I know this is foolish, but before resorting to such violence I would just leave the community and get a civil divorce, but I presume that's out of the question.
