Noor TV Channel Fined For 'Inciting Violence' After Broadcaster's Remarks On 'Blasphemers"

CANTERBURY, England (RNS) Britain’s broadcasting watchdog has fined an Islamic TV channel 85,000 pounds ($132,490) for inciting violence after a program host said it was acceptable, and even a duty, for Muslims to murder anyone who insults the Prophet Muhammad.

Thank goodness, reason prevailed. This channel is supposed to represent the moderate and reasoned voice of Islam.

Agreed. And I will add that the same goes for any "Christian" group that would also incite violence -- such as if the Westboro Babtist inbreeds decided to go international. My only concern is if such a law were abused against an otherwise peaceful group.

Yes. I agree. Any group that advocates violence should be fined and if they offend enough, take the license away.

I sometimes think, and I hope I am wrong, that the Koran really does advocate violence to those who insult the Prophet's name. Well, the difference is that the Old Testament advocates violence against some groups, like Witches, but only a lunatic would advocate that these days. People shun the violence in the bible and gravitate towards the peaceful things. I really hope most Muslims do not advocate violence towards people who sully the name of the Prophet.

Agreed with you, Vizio. (Amazing, huh?) At this point however, I'd say the viciously hostile and spiritually disruptive WBC have more than proven their essentially terrorist agendas against all peace-loving Christians and otherwise.

They do so much more damage than Constitutionally guaranteed Free Speech will allow. (No yelling "Fire" in a church, for instance..) They of course hope to incite a physical confrontation so the lawyerly family lot of them can make money by going into a lawsuit.

Personally, I'd vote to see them hauled up before some Federal Court to defend their obvious intentions to actively disturb the peace. Frankly, in my more personally combative moments, I'd have them physically hauled off to break rocks in an Alaska rock mine for, say, 20 years minimum.

There, they can all pray daily (or even hourly!), all day and night long. For their sins don't you know...

In the Koran and Hadiths, Muhammad had ordered the murders of those who spoke out against him. He set the standard. Over 60% of the Koran is hate spewing towards all non believers and, more specifically, Christians and Jews. Muhammad committed genocide against the Jews. He was a terrorist like Moses.

Prior to meeting and knowing Wood . . . I would have said there is no such thing as a moderate and reasoned Muslim. Unfortunately, I am still convinced that the majority of them . . . especially the young, uneducated, illiterate and poor . . . are not like Wood.

Well, I suppose a moderate Muslim, like moderate Christians and Jews, do not take the violent parts of the bible seriously, just ignore the violence and many of the dogmatic prescriptions that do not fit in to the way we wish to shape our world. They keep the spirituality but discard the negative.

I am not sure that Muslims, any of them, will when talking to you, say they disregard this or that passage in the Koran as being antiquated and not conforming to the society that they wish.

This is the problem - can we honestly say that there are moderates? Maybe.

To be a moderate, though, you cannot follow your holy books to the letter, can you? Is this doctrine approved of or even allowed in any mosque?

I just don't know.

Have you ever heard of the Golden Age of Jewry?...

That's an oxymoron.

I wonder why Muslims are prone to murder "for God" more than a lot of modern world religions? I've never understood that, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that it seems like there is something within Islam that turns men into hotheads. Clearly many of them believe that God himself can "feel insulted".
