Would you abandon your family if God/Jesus told you to or would you abandon God? Let's say you were given the choice of Abraham.
We all know what we would do…until the time comes. We keep praying God will give us the strength to be like Abraham.
Jesus would not tell us to do that in this time. If somone (something) tells us to do that...be assured it is not jesus. Jesus will not be back until he comes to destroy.
Abraham has always been a story of cowardice to me - Abraham was too much of a coward to stand up against G-d for his son. It's not honorable, it's horrific.
If G-d appeared in front of me and told me to abandon or kill my family, it would be clear that this deity was not worthy of my respect or worship.

Silly question. Love is not a contest and there is no "more than or less than" in love. It EXISTS or it doesn't. God IS love and you cannot love without including God. It is our human attachments that can vary in intensity for reasons other than love.

"God/Jesus told [me] to"? Seriously? Does he call me on my cell? Does he come to me in a dream?
Whenever I hear people say "God told me to," I am shocked, just shocked, to realize that that's what they WANTED to do in the first place. EG polygamists: "Gold told me to take my 2nd wife ... then my 3rd [when I got bored with the 2nd] ... and now he's telling me to go marry that cute 18-year-old who just moved in ..."

Once again, what was the point of God "testing" Abraham if he already knew the outcome?

How vague can we get? Is this a hypothetical to start a firestorm in this section?
Why would God ask someone to abandon their family in the first place? What is the situation?
Abandonment of family doesn't make sense. If God/Jesus are love, how is it loving to abandon a family?
