Did you watch the Nostradamus Effect series? Besides the Mayan prediction of the world ending in 2012, there are other doomsday prophecies as follows
Chinese - I-Ching,The Book of Changes, used for more than 5000 years to aid decision making, predictions of the future, etc calculated the 2012 end date in the early 1970's, long before they had heard of the Mayan Calender.
Hopi (American Indian) - Hopis predict that time will end when humanity emerges into the "fifth world" which coincides with that time.
Hindu - The Hindus too predict the word will end in 2012. In Hinduism, the universe begins in the Satya Yuga and ends in the Kali Yuga and it is suggested that Kali Yuga will end in 2012.
Then there are Leonardo Da Vinci's paintings, sketches, and writings that predict a great apocalyptic flood. Just look at Bangkok now.
Me? I personally don't think the word will end in one day but at different times in different places The recent earthquakes in Japan and New Zealand ended the world for some just like the floods in Bangkok.
So, with the year 2012 quickly approaching I wanted to know what the thoughts were on the world ending.
I don't think it's going to happen next year. Or even the year after that. How about you? Do you believe this?
Incidentally, on April 13, 2029 an asteroid is going to come so close to Earth, it will actually pass BELOW the level of our communication satellites. At least, that's the course that has been projected. Let's hope that somewhere out there in the vastness of space, that asteroid isn't hit by a small space rock, which could nudge it just a tiny fraction off that course...and then who can say but that we might take a direct hit?
That should certainly be a date to mark on your calendar.
There are some that if I were alive at during that period of time I would have have completely believed the end was coming. One particularly convincing, #10- The Great London Fire of 1666. First the date is 1666, the mark of the devil. The year before a plague had taken 100,000 people (1/5 of londons population). Then in 1666, a fire broke out in a bakery. The fire spread and over three days burned more than 13,000 buildings and destroyed tens of thousands of homes.
From a Christian perspective, I think most fundamentalists believe that it's all going to be over pretty soon. Those who take Revelation literally will say that all the times align for "this generation" to start passing away, therefore the end times stuff such as the Rapture and the AntiChrist will have to show up within the next 10 years. I've heard 2015 as a possible date for the beginning of the 7 year tribulation. Depends on who you talk to as far as dates but if Obama is the AntiChrist then we don't have long!!
For the record, I don't believe any of this stuff any longer so I'm just passing along information.
So, with the year 2012 quickly approaching I wanted to know what the thoughts were on the world ending.
The Mayan calander predicts 2012. Any thoughts on this?
I personally do not believe this, but I am not very educated on the topic.
Any other predictions on when the world is ending?
The Mayans predicted their civilization would end in 2012. This caused them to be pessimistic, so it ended even earlier than that - a self fulfilling prophecy.
