So not too long ago I was at Harry Carey's in Midway Airport and I was eating lunch while waiting for my flight to depart. To my left was a business woman from Arkansas and to my right was a priest. I was talking to the woman for a while before the priest showed up and she was telling me about her job and her family back in Arkansas. She mentioned how one of her children was about ready to go away to college but she did know if she wanted him to go to a private Christian school or the University of Arkansas. That then got her on the topic of how she's mad that creationism isn't taught in public schools and how evolution was "just a theory." It was about this time that the priest sat down and ordered his lunch so the woman asked if he believed in evolution. The priest said, "well, it's a proven scientific fact so of course I believe it."
Shut her right up. Priest turned out to be a cool older guy too, had spent some time in my hometown and was a big baseball fan. Just goes to show that you never can tell about people.

Ask a thousand church representatives a question, get a thousand different responses. Many of the responses are twisted logic such as (in reference to god creating the world and man in seven days) "Well god's day may be a million years in a human world...".
How many times has the bible been rewritten to accommodate new yet conflicting scientific discoveries?

Too bad about those conflicting scientific discoveries. Maybe that is why some of what science thinks is true today, will be shown to be incorrect in a 100 years.
As to the Bible being rewritten to fit in with current scientific thought; How many times? Zero.

Yes...it's called learning and gaining knowledge.
Oh how I wish the church would've won out as popular opinion when they said the earth was flat!LOL

LOL. Riiiight.
Sorry charlie, but the fact is Bible has been continuously "retconned", or re-interpreted as history and science disprove it and pushes it ever into the corner of inanity and irrelevancy.
Catholic clergy, Jesuits and Cistercians in particular, tend to be much more scholarly than their Fundamentalist/Evangelical counterparts. It was Father Melchior that taught me about evolution!
