SLIDELL, La. -- The American Civil Liberties Union in Louisiana says Jesus has no place in Slidell City Court.

The ACLU has asked court officials to remove his portrait from the lobby within a week or face the possibility that the organization will file a lawsuit to force the issue.

Joe Cook, the Louisiana chapter's executive director, said several people have complained to the ACLU about the picture, and one has filed a written complaint, prompting the organization to intervene.

Good. There is no place for religion in a courtroom. Besides that, a picture of Jesus to the exclusion of all other religious icons is a clear violation of the First Amendment.

I completely agree with the last two posts. This isn't an attack on religion, it's merely pointing out the obvious fact that the Jesus picture does not belong in a Court because it suggests that the government is endorsing this particular religion. What would Christians think if they walked into that building and saw a statue of Buddah or some other major religion? Government can't endorse a religion, simple as that.

Take it down. It is clearly a religious statement and has no place in a courthouse. You have to obey the law, especially in a court of law.

How does the aclu know it is a picture of JESUS? Seems to me they're just trying to make noise for the sake of being heard. Did u know the legal system in America is based on Biblical principles? If u say no God in court then u say no to law and order.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or serious, but the bolded assertion is discredited by the OP itself: ...several people have complained to the ACLU about the picture, and one has filed a written complaint, prompting the organization to intervene.

The ACLU defends separation (as well as free exercise), so, while it is possible that it is "making noise," the organization is only responding in a manner consistent with its mission. The police may be "making noise" when they respond to a 911 call, but more likely they are just doing what they are paid to do. The same holds true with the ACLU.

Well either take it down or add pictures that endorse all other religions to it...Do you think the wall is big enough?
