I changed mine after marriage I would have preferred to keep mine if just to avoid the paperwork but my SO felt pretty strongly about me having his so since it was of such mportance to him I did but it really didn't matter much either way to me.
When I married I took his name. My daughter married over a year ago, and just recently changed hers. She really didn't want to change it, and her husband didn't care, but after so many questions from others she finally just did it.
I'd prefer to keep mine, at least on the official documents and such. I don't care if anyone would call me "Mrs ....". I'd also consider hyphenating, though I don't know how well my name would work with a hyphen...
As for kids, they can have the father's name, or do the hyphenated thing if it works. Granted, this is all hypothetical as I'm not married, so if it's a huge deal to the guy I could probably be talked into some sort of change. I've noticed that my mother and a lot of my aunts have started to refer to themselves as "Mrs. Maiden-Married name", even though they officially changed their names completely when they got married 30 years ago. My mother has also said that she wishes it hadn't been so taboo to keep your own name when she got married so she could have kept hers (my parents have been happy for 36 years and going strong, so it's not like there's an issue with their relationship).
After marriage, did you change your last name to that of your husband's last name or husband's first name? and If so, why?
1. Was it your intention to change?
2. Was it expected after marriage?(maybe you had a discussion with your better half earlier during courtship!)
First, who has ever changed there last name to their husbands first name? I have never heard of this.
My second question is how exactly do you change your last name to your husbands?
I ask because I suspose I was half and half. I never changed my name on my SS or DL or payroll. I signed some loans and had a bank account with my husbands last name and insurance policies with his name. Sometimes I signed/used my last name sometimes his depending on if I had to sign a particular way or what mood I was in. So did I change my name? We are now divorced and Im glad I didnt have to change everything back.
I really had no intentions, I was just lazy. There was no discussion but it is the norm to change names.
