In a society that has heavily turned to internet, texting, IMing, and email as the major forms of communication when it comes to dating, how important are spelling, grammar, and punctuation to you? Are you turned off when someone doesn't take the time to use these things?

I admit, when conversing with a guy online, I pay close attention to how they use their words and punctuation. It is indeed a turn-off to me if they can't take the time to make an appropriate presentation, especially since that is usually your FIRST impression of them. Why would I be impressed and want to continute talking with someone who types like a 4 year-old?

I'll be the first to admit I'm not perfect when it comes to these things, but I do make a valiant affort, and I think it shows.

Thoughts?

Not really that important. I mean unless its really bad. For some reason the word "aint" or ebonic slang written seriously bugs me to death. I am usually doing other stuff and mess things up all the time myself.

Since it's written communication, I think spelling and grammar are just as important online as general appearance is face-to-face. If a guy peppers his writing with "2"s and "ur"s and ",,,,,"s, I have a hard time not thinking he's an idiot. A guy who knows how to use a semicolon is a rare and wondrous thing. I'm not going to pore over emails with a red pen, but a general grasp of the language is nice.

I don’t get on people's case if they use the wrong grammar or punctuation on the board. After all this is not the Library of Congress.

When it comes to texting, I don't mind shortcuts. But I do expect an email to be written properly. I know I've misplaced a few commas and mispelled. But I do my best to do it properly.

It tends to drive me crazy. Then again, I've always been a stickler for good punctuation and spelling, considering the fact that English was always my best (and favorite) subject in school.

Spelling is kind of important IMO. I mean I don't judge too harshly if a couple of more complex words are spelled wrong, or whatever. Heck, I spell words wrong too. No biggie.

BUT, when really simple words are getting butchered and they can't seem to figure out capitalization and stuff, that's where I start wondering a bit...

e.e.cummings is ded. no reasin to try and rite like her. ok ?

I have been corrected on spelling and grammar. Often times they make spelling and grammatical errors when doing so. I have little tolerance for being corrected on trivial violations while it is 99% intact. I recently and ferociously jack hammered someone who did just that. I "Mispelled" it.
Sometimes I am too busy to give it a good once over.

I have to add that one of my biggest pet peeves is people who capitalize words that don't need to be. THAT I will call someone out on.

You don't Need to capitalize Stupid words, it just makes You look Stupid.
