I don't always know. You gonna tell me you've never been hungry enough that your eyes were bigger than your stomach? It happens. When I can, I will package up my leftovers and save 'em for another meal. But they don't let you do that at the "all you can eat" places (which I rarely go to, since they're kind of wasted on my small appetite) and then there are times that some foods simply do not heat up well. There are a few things I won't even bother trying to save for later, because I know I'll just be throwing them away when I notice they've gone off in the fridge.

People get really sensitive about the notion of wasting food, but I'm like...ok, my choices with this food in front of me, are to either stuff it in my face even though I am full, and even though it will make me uncomfortable, and even though I'll get fat, just so it does not get wasted...or throw it out. Neither of those options is going to feed a starving kid in a third world country. Neither of those things affects the people who judge me so.

There is a thing I call "clean plate club" where a lot of folks are raised to believe you MUST finish all the food on your plate. I don't. And I'm healthy, good body weight, good bloodwork, etc while a lot of people who scowl and fuss at me are struggling to lose weight (or so they say.) I'm don't want to be a jerk about it but I kinda feel like, "who the heck are you to tell me how to eat?" I don't think it's good for us to force ourselves past the point of comfortably full, just for the sake of not wasting a few more bites we don't need. When I hit my wall, I've hit it. I'm done.

I frankly think that it's ridiculous that the same people who give individuals a hard time for wasting a little food here and there, will shrug and not really care when grocers and restaurants, producers of food and sellers of it, are wasting mountains of food all the time. Perfectly edible food that is brand new and untouched. But we're not allowed to criticize those above us, it seems, only other regular folks like ourselves... See? It can get kinda political, can't it?

Funny thing happened one time though. I was sitting at work eating a frosted honey bun, and a middle aged lady I work with came up and made an incredulous face at me and said, "I can't believe you're eating that. Do you have any idea how many calories are in that thing?" And I replied, "You know, I've never seen a calorie. I'm not entirely convinced that they exist."

Center left moderate - social libertarian. Took a fairly extensive political leaning quiz and I've popped in almost literally smack dab with the average.

Never heard the term "social libertarian" before. LOL, that's a new one to me.

Socially liberal and fiscally somewhat moderate is sorta how i viewed myself, but whatever, the current state of things now makes anything remotely politically sort of a dangerous subject to talk about. I check in on the POC forum and some of those crazies over there, right and left, get really out there on some of their posts.

I have noticed over the last few years, even before the Mango colored one, that it seemed like at the family gatherings the political talk was starting to get squelched I think in an attempt to keep things nicey nice.

I've referred to myself as a "Liberal-tarian." Like there are things that on paper, in theory, I like about supposedly liberal ideologies, but in practice...I have trust issues. Big ones. Just like supposedly conservative leaders who supposedly stand for smaller government or less centralized power, don't actually do that a lot of the time, when you trust the government to tax people and do things with that money that benefit the populace...will they really? I struggle to trust any of them.

If I could truly trust that my government were providing properly for certain aspects of public well-being, things we all really benefit from like a high quality education, good roads to drive on, and basic healthcare for everybody, I'd be willing to fund those things with a significant portion of my earnings going to taxes. When I worry that the guys in the suits are skimming more than their due, then I am like "Hey...HEYY now...don't you be takin' my money!"

But if my choices are really limited to left and right (*sigh*) then the right has more going on that I feel is alarmingly contrary to what I believe in.

Some dude a couple of cubes over left his phone at his desk and someone's been blowing that mother up the last hour or so. It's got some funky annoying ring tone setup and I fear that it's going to get stuck in my head later.

Slept like crap this whole weekend and feeling a bit annoyed, in case you couldn't tell.

Every time I hear someone's obnoxious ringtone I think of what a friend of mine says: "the only acceptable ringtone is vibrate."

The funniest I've heard was some guy had the Enterprise D Red Alert sound exclusively for his wife.

In hindsight it wasn't funny, but this "Chad" type guy on the commuter train had porn sounds for each text message he received and all the middle age to older women in earshot just had a look of disgust and anger on their faces. Took everything I could not to laugh.

Yeah, I turn my phones to vibrate. I sometimes miss calls because of that, but I can't stand the sound of a phone ringing, any phone, any "ring' type annoys me, even music and sound effects and all of the other stuff.

I should probably head over to the what annoys you thread over in OT.

I had a GWAR song called "Sick of You" as the ringtone for my ex husband. For several years before we broke up, in fact, though like most, my phone was usually on vibrate. He never knew until the end. One time after our breakup (but while I was still living there) when he'd been very insulting and jerky to me, and I was feeling fed up, I looked him in the eye and said, "Call my phone. Just do it."

He did and that song started playing. I said nothing, just stared at him. He said, "Well. That's hurtful." and I walked away without a word.

EDIT: This one...

I finally got an interview for a job in my field of study. While it may unfortunately tie me to Washington DC for a little while longer, I got to get my foot in the door somehow. I haven’t heard a peep from jobs I’ve applied for in Ohio, Kentucky, and Florida.

Yeah the really sucky thing that might mess with your chances to get something elsewhere, is that I think a lot of those hiring might figure that a relocation could easily fall through, especially if they are not paying for it (and most won't for a new hire) and so they really prefer to hire someone who is already local.

I tried to nail down this job before I moved here, but the response was minimal and lukewarm until I actually had a local address.

I do sure hope you can escape the DC area someday though. That place is pretty soul sucking, in my opinion.
