I've never tried making them. It looks like a lot of work for something that looks cute but is basically a little piece of plain cake with thin frosting.
OP, probably a fancy bakery would have them for the holidays, or could make them to order.
Since the OP is in Boca, I would go to Sur La Table and see if they know where to get authentic petit fours or try several of the French bakeries that I think are still in Boca. Our local bakery makes good ones and we are in no way a gourmet town.
they were made in New York the owner of the company was my cousins godfather they where originally from Boston but the family lives out on New York Sound we would visit them in the summer Arthur the owner passed some years ago and I do not believe the heirs continued but I will try and find out. he would send us box loads at christmas and you could buy them at SS pierce a Boston Specialty shop
It's only September so we have time to order and taste.
