I was wondering how many sellers offer contracts on homes before their home sells (with a contingency that the contract will go through when the home sells)? Is this a common practice? Thanks!!

Congrats on putting the offer on the home. Look at it this way the home you are buying owners are most likly having a hard time selling their home also and believe me many realtors will not show their home anymore so you have an edge on them and you will sell your home. In 1990 we did the same but with a builder and our home was not sold, no offer no traffic. Our town in CA had just added another zip code and when we went to look at our soon we hoped to be home we were told it wasn't ours anymore. We asked why and the builder said they sent us a certified letter a week prior saying we had 48 hrs to lift the contingency. We said we never recieved it and asked if they had the right address? They put the new zip code in and that is why we never recieved it. They gave us 48 hrs more and on the last day hubby and i drove past our dream home to just look at it. That night we got a call from our realtor saying an offer was coming in and she had to get to the office to get it (she and her hubby were at a party) two hours later she was at our house read us the offer and we accepted it with an hour to spare. So don't give up you will get your home. Life is so strange but everything seems to work out.
