I would never feel good about living in a house where people were murdered in. So I would never buy this house.
It took nearly a year for the right buyer to come along, but the house that notorious New York serial killer Joel Rifkin once called home has finally sold.
The March 2010 death of Rifkin's mother, Jeanne Rifkin, prompted the sale of the 1952 two-story, ranch-style home in East Meadow on Long Island. The original asking price was $424,500, but, after some negotiating, the new owners managed to pick it up the "handyman special" at a discount.
I never knew there was a real Joel Rifkin. I remember the " Seinfeld" episode about Elaine's boyfriend having that name but assumed it was made up. I also liked the David Berkowitz references in the one about the van and Kramer's airport gambling one where Newman had his mailbag.
I guess I'll have to google him and see what he did.
No, that house would not be worth $300k to me. Especially not if I had to go back to New York.
I don't care what happened in it in years past, I don't believe in any boogey men. It's just not that attractive of a house.
ugly house, but had it not been his, it would have sold for closer to the 425K asking. I wouldn't have bought it regardless, but for me, if I knew a brutal crime occurred in the house, i'd pass.
Funny thing, I live about 5 miles from there, and I guess I never knew. I've heard of Joel Rifkin, but I guess I was too young to realize that this was all happening in my area.
I don't think I'd have lived in it for free. I wouldn't have been able to get past the stigma. Did you guys watch American Horror Story on FX by chance?
