They have been sent notes of interest in the past and we do not want to be too persistent. I have located the obituary for the wife who lived there. She died at age 75 and we born in 1933. She was predeceased by a son and brother. That eliminates three persons. Survivors were at the time: her husband who's name the home is in now. That was 9 years ago. If he was the same age as she was then he would be around age 84.
A son and his wife who at that time lived about 12 miles from the home. A daughter and husband who live in the city where the property tax address is located. Another daughter of the city where the home is located. A sister and brother of the local area. So the two individuals who arrived at the home and met a gentleman in coat and tie could have been any of them who are still living. I am thinking that the woman's husband may be in poor health and in a care facility or maybe vacated the home and moved to live with a daughter where the property taxes are paid. In any event we can only hope that this home, if it becomes for sale, will be listed by an agent so as we check it every day we'll know that it is for sale and has not been bought through some other "non public" channel. I am sure the home was paid for and no lingering mortgage.
Go ask next time. They probably won't take offense, if they are related they will be happy someone is keeping a eye out. You can ask if or when they will be selling home and tell them you are interested in buying. Then no realtor s commission (but you should have a real estate lawyer involved in transaction)
Or just write a letter to address on tax records. If address is same as house they may be having mail forwarded to whoever is in charge of paying bills for homeowner. If you are willing to buy as is all the being for them probably.
My sister bought the elderly next door neighbors house. Made a offer when she found out he was planning to move to assisted living. Big headache for him and his children avoided not to have to put up for sale and realtor trying to get it "presentable for showings and such. Plus bil was going to do some remodeling anyway so didn't need to be move in ready. Just used a real estate attorney to do things right.

One neighbor who has never been caught at home for over a year was able to confirm who is handling the property. The deceased's child in another city which also shows as the address for the deceased's husband.
That address has been sent letters of interest two times. Maybe even three and I did not keep a diary of these letters to recall dates.
Well a letter came back and the property is under contract, no sign in the yard, no MLS and no Google search brought it up. And an agent friend said could not find it either. Someone behind the scenes got it and it was not sold to a relative or friend.
The demand for it should have been low considering many factors.
Can you search your area records a little while after it is sold?
Yes and I think a nearby business bought it to use the lot for extra parking. If so it won't be an individual who might sell in the future.
