My husband is being transferred to the area in July. His office will be in RTP and we would like to live close by. His commute now is 45 to an hour and he hates it! We have three kids ages 8,5, and 18 months. We are looking in Cary, but would love specific neighborhood suggestions. We would like to pay around $2K for rent and have our children attend schools that follow the traditional calendar. Any suggestions of neighborhoods that meet this criteria? Thank you so much for your help! This has been incredibly difficult to do out of state.

Welcome to NC (an early welcome)! For $2k/month in rent you have a lot of great options. Cary Park and Amberly are VERY convenient to RTP and great neighborhoods (no more than 5-10 minutes) and they have an elementary, middle and high school nearby. They just decided to convert the elementary school to traditional (Mills Park Elementary). Mills Park Middle is brand new and I would imagine is traditional as well since the elementary school will be. Preston also sometimes has townhomes or single family homes for rent in this range. This is right off Davis Dr. (only about 10 minutes to RTP). Specifically, Preston Village is very nice and close to the schools and a great tennis center. Another great location is off of Harrison Ave. (right off Hwy 40, so no more than 10 minutes to RTP) in Cary--on the Weston Parkway side. There is a great walking trail in Umstead Park and North Cary Park. But, it is harder to find homes for rent in this area.
