OK - Love, love, love Cary. Went there several times and loved the area. But the house prices are climbing, 380,000 for an older, nice neighborhood in need of some TLC- kind of steep. A little less to be closer to landfill, nucleur plant... Loved the people and thought it was great for transplants..
However, I've heard TN was the next NC - no state income tax is a plus and the taxes are pretty reasonable - the area of Murfreesboro seems great. But the question - is it the bible belt? Will they welcome transplants? Anyone who has lived there and moved to NC - or vs. versus... Any thoughts welcome. This is a tough decision. Need to make the right one.

We lived near Nashville (the town of Franklin) for five years. We would have stayed there forever if it wasn't for my husbands job. LOVED everything about the area. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is super friendly there. Also, almost everyone there are transplants themselves. Of course, the further out in the countryside you go, that changes. But if you are talking about the city and surrounding suburbs, I think you'll find it hard to find people who have been there forever.

Yes, it is the Bible belt, and there is a church on every corner it seems. But that makes for lots of friendly people!

It wouldn't take me very long to make the decision. Nashville is much more cosmopolitan and it has a lower cost of living than Raleigh.

Well, I'm partial to "main street" kind of towns, and also historic homes, so Franklin has both of these. I'm trying to even remember if Murfeesboro had a "downtown" type street. I just remember it being a little more of a country feel. Like I said, I can't remember the "town" itself. Have you looked into Franklin? To me, Franklin is the ideal town. It's near enough to Nashville, it has the "Cool Springs" area, which is a shopping mecca, and it has the historic main street with quaint shops, and historic homes surrounding. But, this is all just *my* opinion...others may have different ones entirely on what constitutes a nice town to live in. Franklin will be more expensive than Murfeesboro (I know I'm butchering the spelling!), so it does have that disadvantage.

Oh, one thing that the Raleigh area has over Nashville, is that it's near the coast. That was the one thing we didn't like about TN... we weren't near water. We grew up on the east coast though, so being near water felt normal to us rather than being in the middle of...well, nothing.

Hope this helps!
