Where Is The Triangle and other local things? (Raleigh, Greensboro: chapel, home)

Coming from another state, I'm wondering what it means when people speak of the triangle? Our "tri-state area" is New Jersey, Delaware and PA.

What areas are in the Triangle?

What are other local "slang" terms we might need to know?

Triangle = Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill

Triad = Greensboro/Winsotn-Salem/High Point

"Down East" = the farming areas east/southeast of Raleigh

That pretty much covers it. Sometimes they like throw Cary in there and call it "Raleigh-Durham-CARY-Chapel Hil". For whatever reason the emphazise Cary when they say it like that. lol.

DD...you must be from South Jersey, in the northern part the tri-state is NY,NJ, and CT. LOL!

The Research Triangle, commonly referred to as "The Triangle", is a metropolitan region in the Piedmont of North Carolina in the United States, anchored by the cities of Raleigh, Durham, and the town of Chapel Hill. The major research universities of North Carolina State University, Duke University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are also located in this region respectively. The name was cemented in the public consciousness in the 1950s with the creation of Research Triangle Park, home to numerous high-tech companies and enterprises. Although the name is commonly used to refer to the cities, "The Triangle" originally referred to the universities, whose research facilities and the educated workforce they provide are the major attraction for businesses located in the Park.

LOL Yes, I am from South Jersey. Isn't it funny how the same state can have a different tri-county area, depending on what end you live at?
