I just noticed that the Bear Rock Cafes at both the Crossroads and Crescent Commons locations in Cary have closed. All useful info seems to have been removed from their website. Anyone know what happened to this franchise? They always seemed to be doing pretty good business.
wow, no, I hadn't heard about this. We used to go to the Morrisville one a lot, but honestly it got really inconsistent lately and we quit going. I'm sorry to hear this. Anyone know if the Mo-ville one is gone?
The Crescent Commons location closed ages ago. We used to go there every once in a while, but mainly went to the Crossroads location. One day I asked the manager at the Crossroads location if he know why the Crescent Commons location closed. He said that they probably didn't get enough business. What? Next to a hospital and they didn't get any business? It was always crowded when I was in there.
Then, a few months later, the Crossroads location suddenly closed. There was a sign on the door that indicated they were moving to Crescent Commons. What? That was a few months ago and I haven't seen anything happening at either location.
Is the store in Morrisville still open. It was at the corner of Cary Parkway and Chapel Hill, next to the Food Lion.
It seems as though places are dropping like rocks in Cary. I posted earlier that Bentleys closed. What is going on?
I think it's the economy. I have friends who own restaurants in FL and they felt the pinch before anyone else did--dining out is one of the first things people cut out of their list of luxuries. Hopefully things will pick up soon--I"m so tired of seeing local businesses closing up.

Well, at the risk of sounding like an old person, those of us who watched the "consumer services" and retail "stuff" here grow from very little to huge over the last 20 years (I won't even discuss back in the early '70s) many of us have wondered if things were not being overbuilt/overserved (I am thinking of the Cary area specifically). Regardless of the question "how much is too much" one thing is for sure; if people's incomes get hit the area's businesses are going to get hit. Sort of goes back to that issue of the big corporations loosing sight of what it means to be "good citizens" like they were in the 40's - 60's; now posting record profits so their stock does well while putting people on the street. Apparently they don't understand that bad impacts on enough of these individuals are going to become bad impacts on their corporations; like even if we ignore the obvious bad impact on their PR (which is becoming very dangerous in this age of THE WEB) if a disporportionate number of "customers" can't afford their product because they don't have jobs, then what are the companies going to be in business for? I guess like IBM they will say India, China, etc. Give me a call when that revenue starts to compare with all the money and tax dollars it took to get them into this postion to go after offshore business; I'll be by the phone...
I have been very unimpressed with Bear Rock Cafe.
I think Panera Bread makes much better sandwiches.

I went there the first time in Charlotte and LOVED them. A month ago I tried going to 3 different locations, all of which were closed. Sadness. There is one off of Lake Boone Trl and one in N. Raleigh... the only two left here apparently. The Lake Boone Trl one was sort of old and nasty. It was missing most of the ceiling tiles and just generally not pleasant, in my opinion.
I've never been to Bear Rock Cafe. I exclusively go to Harris Teeter now for subs. I find it better tasting, better value then Sub way, Panera, Quiznoes, etc.
There has to be something specific to Bear Rock as the one in Raleigh over by the new Trader Joes closed late last year as well. They're closing everywhere it appears. Seems odd.
I was never really impressed with Bear Rock anyways so no loss here. :P
