If you like to look at other threads already in place, there is a link to the search engine.....if you type in Long Island you are going to see dozens.

You'll probably find all the answers looking through a variety of threads here....not just the ones from folks from Long Island. There are small and medium size lakes here for boating around, as well the ocean not being 'that far' away.

Yes, Des is right, search for in depth info, but in short, we are happy with the schools, have found good bagels & pizza, have a filter for the water, just as we did on LI, and,
the local boating is on Falls Lake
Wake Forest is like Suffolk was 20 years ago - a good thing, for us

Things we did not have on LI..., and enjoy, in no particular order:
friendly people, easier driving around, good biscuits & barbeque, pretty creeks and lakes, green landscapes all year...

We are moving from Long Island, we should be closing on our house around Oct. Searching through this board is the best thing you can do for info. We have taken six trips to wake county since last summer trying to find the right town for us. My husband is the guy who swore up and down he would never leave Long Island. And then we found Holly Springs, and nearby areas. He has a very successful construction business in NY and says he would give it up all tomorrow to be there. The best NY types places (pizza, bagels and such) I found to be closer to the Cary area. That is why we chose Holly Springs. Anywhere you go in NC, everyone is always friendler and the places are whole lot cleaner. It's like living on vacation to me. NY is yesterdays news, and the ones who love it so much.... Don't keep an open mind for other places.
