So I'll be living in the Glenwood South area in May, and one of the interviews I'm going on next week is in Durham, on Fayetteville St. Mapquest says it's a 29 minute, 22 mile drive but I realize that's withOUT traffic. Does anyone who travels Raleigh to Durham at morning rush hour have a guesstimate of how long it will actually take me? I'm willing to drive about 45 minutes, I think. Sure, it's not ideal, but I can't afford to be too picky in this job market. Any opinions will be helpful. Thanks!

I drive from NE Raleigh, near TTC, to Durham, off 15-501 and I leave at 7:00...get there around 7:40...traffic really is not that bad.

I drive the opposite direction, but I don't see that much congestion on that stretch of I-40 West (from Wade Avenue to Fayetteville).

I think a lot of it will depend on what times of the day you'll be traveling. I don't think it will take you more than 45 minutes unless you're traveling at exactly the peak traffic times and hit a bunch of lights on your way to or from I-40. This does happen sometimes, I live in Glenwood South and travel to and from the Harrison Ave exit on occasion (it is not my commute, though), and the lights in town sometimes hold me up more than traffic on 40 does.

Mapquest and GPS will want you to take Hillsborough out of town, but I feel that taking St Mary's (or Brooks or Oberlin) to Wade to be quicker.

I used to drive from Glenwood Ave (by Crabtree Valley Mall) to north Durham and it took me approximately 45 mins.
