My family and I (me, husband & 4yr old daughter) are looking into moving to the Triangle area by Summer's end. My husband is in the IT field, he developes insurance and court software for a Fortune 500 company right now. I have worked in the University system and will be looking for the same kind of position once there. Of course we will not move until he has a secure job lined up. Can anyone give us any advice on the places to look for a home to buy? Preschools, IT jobs...etc. We are from "The South" and have moved a bit too far North for our life style. Places to avoid would be great..and I don't need any info or "race relations" or "diversity". We are a well rounded family. We also have 2 dogs.

Where will you be working? What is your price range? Too many good areas to suggust without having more details.

Durham is actually a pretty good value for people looking to move down here, and it's really not as bad as people make it out to be - but if you have children, the schools aren't the best.
I guess the first thing I should is that I would prefer that NO Realtors contact me about this. This will be our 3rd move and our third house so we are pretty up to par on the whole house hunting thing.
We will not be looking for our dreamhome. We are pretty realistic when it comes to making big purchases and trying to find our dream home when our careers have not yet reached peak preferences is just silly. No, we want this house to be new or newer construction, 3 bed/2bath, that kinda thing. We would like close to 1 acre if possible. Kinda rural would be fine or a neighborhood with large lots. We will be down sizing so a house around $130k and 1200 sq ft or more would be fine. We do like the outdoors and cannot wait to be closer to the beach. We are from N Central FL and right now we are land locked! YUCK!
We are a pretty average family, looking for a few more options than our current locale can fill, namely IT jobs. We are Catholic, but not Holy Rollers and would like to be within a decent distance of a Catholic Church, one possibly with a school for our daughter once she reaches Kindergarden, but we arn't dissing public schools just yet if we are zoned for a good one.
2 dogs and a frog make up our pet list right now
My husband and I are in our middle 30's, like music, fun in the sun and family life. We are DIY'ers but are not looking for that to be the main theme of a new home, this time anyway.
We are planning on visiting in/or around April so any suggestions as where to visit? Where to eat? Where NOT to eat, LOL! We would like to see the Triangle area mostly for obvious reasons.
Just any ideas or auggestions are gladly accepted!! Your opinions on where you live would be great too. I will cannot be shocked, so don't hold back.
Don't listen to this guy. Durham is great! Now there are places in Durham that I would not recommend, but don't forget that Durham is HUGE. And when all of this 'dirt' on Durham is brought up, there is no telling if they are talking about Durham the city or Durham the county.
Durham (county) - Total 298 sq mi (772 km²)
Raleigh - City 115.6 sq mi (299.3 km2)
Cary - Total 43.5 sq mi (112.6 km2)
At any rate, I live in Southwest Durham and would highly recommend it. I rented in Durham for 1 year (before Southpoint), I lived in Cary for 7 years, and I am currently living in SW Durham for over 1.5 years.
My wife works for UNC - Chapel Hill and the commute it great (under 20m). I work in IT in the triangle and my commute is 15m on a bad day, normally about 10m.
Google Brier Creek. It's in west Raleigh and there are a TON of housing options - It's about 2 hours from the beach. Also, there is a Catholic Church about 10 minutes away, with a school. It's won of the more popular Catholic Churches in the area. There are detached homes and townhomes - plus, there are a bunch of good dining options in Brier Creek Shopping Center as well.
