What’s up with these trains at night!? I have noticed that trains are recently more active at night especially around 2am and 4am. They seem to travel slower and blow their horns for longer.

Do you live really close to the tracks? We live less than a half-mile from them, and I've got to admit, they have never woken me. I've heard them when I'm awake for some other reason.

They don't wake me up either and I live pretty close. About 1/2 mile from a crossing. I run a Hepa filter at night for white noise (and clean air) so maybe you could try that? I have a humidifier in my daughter's room which also provides nice white noise.

It is only recently that I hear the night trains, hence my post, have they always run throughout the night? It could also be that some plots nearby have been cleared and we no longer have the "sound proofing" that the forest provides. Thanks for the advice.

One of my homes in Portland was about a mile from train yards. We found in the winter it was louder in part due to the lack of foilage. But also on windy nights the sound would carry further. If they are freight trains then we always found more activity near Christmas than the rest of the year.

I highly recommend some sort of white noise. Good luck!
