I registered an out-of-state car for the first time in Orange County at the end of June. The cost was $232. Today, I received a tax bill for my car for $227. $459 seems just a bit excessive for a 6-year old car. Hopefully one of these fees is a one-time deal only?!

The first on you paid was a state HUT tax of 3 percent of your car
the second one which is sent after 3 months after someone register their car is a county, city property tax and that is annual

You pay personal property tax on vehicles every year, in all NC counties.

Okay, that sounds more reasonable. So next year, I will pay the $73 (title & plate) plus this property tax bill I just got in the mail?
