Hi,
I moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area from Mexico (legally) because I married a Philadelphian living there, now we are in Apex, N.C. due to his job.
I am college educated and I've had a passport and a U.S visa since I was 4 years old. I've been bilingual since I was 6 and I am now a U.S. citizen. In Dallas I was fortunate enough to meet a lot of people and other moms in the same circumstances and with similar backgrounds, maybe because it's closest to Mexico or because it's a bigger city. Anyway, we've been one year in N.C. and I still haven't met anybody, mexican, latino or spanish speaking with whom to develop a friendship. There is a lot of mexicans here but unfortunately other than country of origin we have nothing in common. Please, I would love to learn that there are people out there that can make my life here less lonely. Moderator cut: english only please

Look over on meet-up for one. There are at leat a few groups catering to Hispanics, from professionals in the Triangle to those with common interests or from particular countries. There are quite a few Hispanics here on the board and even more of Hispanic decent living in the area. The community used to be quite small, but in the last few years has grown significantly.

Its a website, meetup.com, it has groups planning events by area or topic. They are a good way to meet people if you are new to the area, are busy or have trouble finding people with like interests. Other than that, you can look at events at some of the local Spanish restuarants or businesses.

The local Spanish language meetup at meetup.com is great. It is a mix of native speakers, mostly well educated professionals, and non-native speakers with various levels of fluency. Many of the events are in Spanish only!

There is an organization called "El Pueblo" which is dedicated to strengthening the Latino community. They are having their annual fiesta on Sept 6 & 7 at the NC State Fairgrounds. There will be lots of Latinos there of all ages showing off their talents and making friends. I'll be in the Cuban booth. Please come. Good luck!

I suggest you join the triangle mommies website. They have a subsection of the forum dedicated to "cultures and diversity" which is filled with local moms of all backgrounds (including spanish speakers). They also plan regular meet ups and play dates with the kids.

The North Raleigh area near Super Walmart on New Hope Church Rd has numerous Mexico-oriented businesses and clubs. Many churches in this area have Hispanic services.

You should meet quite a few people with common interests here in my neighborhood.

Well I am 31 years old and I am Puerto Rican. I moved to NC 2 years ago to be with my childhood sweetheart. I am going to school for Nursing , I didn't finish sooner because I wanted to be a stay at home mom. I moved here from Boston and also have no family or friends. I am in the Raleigh area and seeking to meet new people.
