We have had to cut down HUGE dead trees too. Used a local farmer during the off-season once and Everett Tree Service, Phone: 271-6108, the second go round. Both were reasonably priced (nowhere near $1600), careful and clean about the job. Good luck.
I would only use a licensed, insured tree service for a big job that might damage my home, or a neighbor's, during removal
Absolutely, considering how high risk tree removal is, especially the chance of injury to the people doing the work, PLEASE make sure you use a company that is licensed AND bonded. And ask for verification of that, not just the guy saying "yeah, lady, were licensed".
I think what you need to make sure of is that he's bonded and insured, not licensed. And definitley make sure about the insurance. We once had trees cut down and the guy put a tree through my neighbor's car window which happened to be his work van with several thousand dollars worth of tools in it. It was not pretty!
If you have deer in your neighborhood, leave the stump.
Buy a block of salt at a feed store, put it on the stump. After the salt block has been rained on a few times the salt will soak into the stump. Deer will eat the stump, not the salt. It will be gone within a couple of years tops, depending on the number of deer, for FREE!
