Anyone know of a good internist in Chapel Hill (or at Duke)? I'm fairly new to the area, and need some recommendations. I don't want family practice--but I'd love to hear of a good internist!!

Thank you!!

I'm looking into a few specialists at the moment, but I was amazed to find an excellent family doctor just recently. Not only did she address the issue I was concerned about, but she addressed every single issue and symptom that I had mentioned in the profile I originally filled out, and explained things in such detail, that I was left not asking a single question because she answered them without any prompting. The best doc I've had thus far and terribly honest, and accommodating (better than any Internists I had in Los Angeles, too).

I can PM you her name if you're interested. Otherwise, I'm sure someone here will come up with the perfect Internist you are seeking.

CaliBoy -- I've just moved to CH and ran across this thread because I'm looking for a family doctor. Can you still recommend this doctor? If so, please post or PM me.

Denise Tollefson, MD

My best experience with a general doctor by far from any state. She is professional, comforting, easy to talk to about sensitive issues and explains things so well that you are left feeling you know everything that will happen next. I left her office one time with full confidence that all would be well... even though the prognosis wasn't what I wanted to hear. Btw, all went well based on her prescribed regiment.

I am now loyal to her. Would fly across the country for her. But I will say that she may be experiencing some personal issues herself presently that might be delaying her ability to promptly return calls. She's human, believe it or not, and not infallable. However, I did attempt to visit another local doc in Cary thinking that maybe all docs in the triangle would be as good as her... that I could not have been so lucky. Well, after five minutes at the new doc's office, I bailed out. They were nothing like the great positive experience I had with Tollefson.

She won't rush you. She'll cover everything you note on your chart. And will also discuss alternative forms of medicine should you be interested. It just seems she's all about healing. A very good person.

But, she's presently a one person show. Decided to forego her front office staff for a while some time ago. And because of that, she understands insurance companies like no other and will generally not prescribe treatments or prescriptions your insurance will not cover unless it's absolutely necessary. And, she'll let you know ahead of time. A well rounded professional.

Due to that, be prepared to wait sometimes knowing that the person ahead of you will be you sitting in the same office getting the great care you deserve. But, I do believe she should hire at least one staff person to assist in the administration of things. It would help, especially considering her name is becoming more and more popular.

If anyone does have any issues to speak of when contacting Dr. T, then please let me know. I need to return and visit her myself, but have not gotten around to setting up an appointment. But I know you will be happy with her.

Good luck. Good health.
