On the Starbucks website it says there is a Starbucks at American Tobacco
on Blackwell Street, but then I saw online that it closed down in June and was replaced by a Saladelia Cafe
I have only been to Durham once and didn't even see the area in question, but I am going to be going to Duke and could pretty easily transfer to this store, but I am not sure if it is even there anymore.
Thank you!

According to Starbucks website there is one there... But I can't find too much online about it at all.

As Valerie mentioned, yeah, it's not there anymore.

As it happens, it was never a "real" Starbucks -- it was operated by Duke's dining services through their outsourced vendor (Compass Group). The staff there weren't Starbucks employees and didn't get all the corporate benefits, etc.

No other SBUX will be closing -- the stores at Indigo Commons and North Durham are reachable by car if you're bringing one to campus; the NDur store is also a pretty easy shot by bus from East Campus.

Thank you very much! I wouldnt have been able to transfer there anyhow.
I saw that there is one with a Hillsborough address. It is a little over 2 miles from my dorm on East and would be feasible (to me it seems, as someone who has only spent a few hours in the state) to ride a bike there?
Is this accurate do you think? Or is the North Durham one maybe even closer?

Thank you!

The Hillsborough Rd. one (and the North Pointe Dr and MLK Pkwy ones) are located inside grocery stores -- the employees at the Hillsborough one at least wear Kroger grocery store nametags, not SBUX, so I assume it's franchise, too.

The N. Durham store "can" be biked -- you'd want to take the city greenway trail, cutting down Trinity Ave. and taking the greenway all the way north to its termination at Horton and Guess, which is where the SBUX is. However, that's a long bike ride much better suited to recreation/working out than getting to work, I'd think.

The Indigo Commons store is along the main drag from UNC to Duke, and there are both Triangle Transit and Duke buses (the latter being the free Robertson Scholars bus) that connect the campuses. However, I don't know if they make stops there along the way.

There are a lot of local coffee shops near East Campus that might be looking to hire -- Joe Van Gogh, Broad Street Cafe, Francesca's, Mad Hatters and Bean Traders all come to mind. Also, there are lots of on-campus jobs at Duke including a big student employment fair at the beginning of fall term. You might find that the convenience of working on campus (and the fact that some jobs let you study in your free time, e.g., if you're working somewhere like a library) might make a difference.

Good luck! BTW, I work at Duke, with my team providing among other things technology support to the campus. Perhaps I'll run into you at our back-to-school technology support fair in East Union Marketplace in a few weeks. Welcome to Duke and Durham!
