Default Where is Apex

Apex is in the Raleigh-Durham area, if you go to the city data home page, you will be able to see where it is on the map. Ihave lots of info on the area but can't provide much on this forum.

The single-unit, 900-MW Harris Nuclear Plant is located near New Hill, N.C. It is Progress Energy's newest nuclear plant, beginning commercial operation in 1987. The plant uses Harris lake and a cooling tower for cooling the condenser.

Apex is in Sharon Harris's "blast zone" and they hand out evacuation pamphlets at the schools. 19 years and no problems yet though.

"Footprint" or "Dead Zone" is more appropriate. A nuclear plant that goes China Syndrome doesn't necesssarily mean we'll see a mushroom cloud, just that an area will be impacted by radiation exposure.

Something that boggles me; it doesn't necessarily apply to all nuclear sites, but was of interest to me when Duke started talking about building a plant literally in my backyard; is WATER We've had some pretty severe droughts in the last decade. A proposed plant on the Yadkin River is said to require 1/4 the volume of river water. There are already many dibs on that source as it is, I wonder what would happen if we were to experience the droughts that afflicted us in the late 90s to 2004?
