I would definitely take him to Big Ed's in downtown Raleigh. Its in City Market off of Moore Square. They serve excellent country breakfast and their lunch is good as well. They are open for breakfast & lunch M-F, breakfast on Sat and closed on Sunday. Its been a while since I've been there, but Sat mornings they always had a Dixieland band playing outside. Be sure to get the grits & red eye gravy. Delicious!

Barbeque Lodge in Mini-City (off of Capital/US 1) and Clyde Cooper's BBQ (downtown)are good for eastern Carolina style pork BBQ.

The Restaurant at the State Farmer's Market is good too and the Farmer's Market itself is fun to check out. Lots of produce and gardening stands.

That's all I can think of right now--I'll try to think of more. Definitely do Big Ed's though--we take everybody there when they come to visit us for the first time.

Hate to break it to you, but Lucky 32 (On Spring Forest Road in Raleigh) is closed.

My bad, I'm talking about the one Raleigh. That is the one that closed. You are correct about the one on Tryon Road in Cary. That one is open. I will edit my original post.

You should go to the Pit in downtown Raleigh. It's upscale - and the real deal. And there is a lot on the menu that is very reasonably priced.

The Pit Whole Hog Pit-cooked Barbeque- coming soon to Raleigh

And when you go, tell the Pitmaster Ed Mitchell that he sure did look good in this month's Bon Appetit magazine!
