We were wondering if anyone knows of any alternative teaching certification programs, or non-public opportunities. My wife and I have experience teaching, but no certification. We both have a bachelor of fine arts degree. We appreciate any help.
I am pretty sure there is a lateral entry program for teaching here, as long as you have a college degree. You end up teaching much sooner, I would check out the program (maybe nc state and meredith). As far as schools without that requirement, I would check the private schools (the ones that come to mind are:
Ravenscroft
carolina friends school (I went there, they don't require a teaching certificate)
durham academy
north raleigh country day
the duke school
Cary Academy
I can't think of others off of the top of my head. The majority of private schools in raleigh are christian/religious based, and I cannot remember the names of them. The difficulty with private schools, unfortunately, the teachers do not get paid as much as public schools. The trade off is smaller class sizes, more one on one with the students, etc. Funny isn't it, the students pay a TON to attend the private schools, but the teachers make less than public school teachers................
