My daughter is looking for a teaching job in this area. She has a 4 year degree as a Physical Education Teacher. She has also taught some computer science at the grammar school level. Can anyone shed any light as to where she might find a teaching job in this area? Are there any available?? Thanks.

Yes, there is definitely a need for teachers in the Triangle area, by virture of the massive population growth in the region. I can't speak specifically to Physical Education positions, but I know that teachers are in demand in this area.

Have your daughter check out Wake County's website......Wake County Public School System. They list open teaching positions under the "Jobs" tab.

Thales is a new private school in Apex is looking for teachers.

General Info:

Thank you for your interest in becoming a teacher at the Thales Academy.

You may contact Judy Nunnenkamp to learn more about employment opportunities. She may be reached at 919-882-2410 or judy@captiveaire.com

I highly recommend that you take a tour of the Thales Academy of Raleigh, which can be arranged through Julie Luddy, head of admissions, 919-274-1427, Julie.luddy@thalesacademy.org

The Thales Academy of Apex will open in September of 2008. The 2-story building will have an initial capacity of 200 students in grades K-5, all on the ground floor. Starting in 2009, a grade will be added each year until the school reaches K-8 and a capacity of about 400 students on two floors. The school is being built on a site at 900 North Salem Street, situated in the middle of a new Town Park including baseball and soccer fields and a natural wetland with trails. A Headmistress for the school will be named in the coming weeks.

Thales Academy is the private school equivalent of the nationally-recognized Franklin Academy charter school in Wake Forest, franklinacademy.org. Since no charters are available at this time in North Carolina (they are arbitrarily capped at 100 by the State Legislature), it must be run as a private school. With its low tuition of $5,000, we believe that most residents in the Apex/Ca! ry comm unities will be able to afford sending their children to Thales. A scholarship fund has been established to help those who can not. Considering that Wake County now spends approximately $9,000 annually for each child attending public schools, Thales provides an economical alternative.

A hallmark of the Franklin and Thales Academies is their use of Direct Instruction, a method of teaching that has been refined over 40 years and has resulted in truly remarkable results. An indication of parental acceptance of this method is the 600 applications that were received by the Franklin Academy in the fall of 2007 for the 20 available Kindergarten seats.

You will find a description of Direct Instruction here: National Institute for Direct Instruction Examples of its use in actual classrooms may be seen in the videos below. The first two segments are from the ABC program 20/20. The third is a video created at the Thales Academy in Raleigh.

In addition to Thales Academy of Apex, there is the existing campus in Raleigh that opened in the summer of 2007. A third campus is under development in Wake Forest, and we anticipate additional schools in Apex in the future, which could also include a high school. See thalesacademy.org for details; a new web site dedicated to the Apex campus is under development.

The school is named after Thales of Melitos (pronounced Tha-Les, both vowels long), one of the Seven Sages of Greece and considered to be the father of physical science. One of his most famous students was Pythagoras. Given the focus of our school on academic excellence, the name Thales is appropriate, we believe. For more on Thales, see Thales - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sincerely,

Kent Misegades

Isn't there only 1 or 2 PE teachers per school? I imagine they're few and far between everywhere.
