"Certain types of laminate flooring made by Lumber Liquidators (LL) have a greater risk of causing cancer or other health problems than previously believed, U.S. health regulators said Monday."

Question for realtors and flooring installers. How would a purchaser considering buying a home (not new construction) whether or not the laminate flooring in the home is this type flooring? Current owners did not install flooring.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Quick answer: You wouldn't know. Unless they have a box leftover in storage somewhere for repairs later on.

It seems that the problem is that they used Formaldehyde in the production process. I would think that you could have the floors tested for it prior to purchase.

Floors can be tested. Laminate is pretty cheap so I would change it out regardless.

Does anyone know if KB Homes use Lumber Liquidators laminate flooring material?

Well of course you can test it, but most aren't going to do that. And the offgassing gets lower and lower with each passing month.

It seems to me a few coats of sealer would pretty much solve the problem, if it's outgassing we're worried about.

We owned a townhome in Cary, which had engineered flooring. I am not sure if that has the same issues or if the builder in Stone Creek Village used LL, but as soon as we moved in I started having awful breathing problems. After a year and a half, we bought another house and I moved to it straight away and my breathing cleared right up. Maybe the flooring? IDK

I would be surprised if KB homes installed anything that came close to reaching the quality level of Lumber Liquidators.
