Our old house has sold but our new house isn't ready yet. We are building and it was supposed to be ready by now, but now they are saying mid- to late-January. The movers have already taken all of our stuff and put it in storage, and for now we are just camping out in the old house until closing (Wednesday). Our friends said we can crash with them if we need to, but it was one thing when it might be a few days, and now I feel like we are imposing too much if it will be a few weeks.

Where should I look to find a short-term furnished rental? We work in Durham in the Duke area, and the kids go to school in Hillsborough, so somewhere convenient to one or both of those would be preferable. Thanks for any suggestions!

At the risk of stating the obvious, a Residence Inn or Extended Stay or Towneplace Suites?

I might also add that we have two kids and a dog, so we'd prefer 2 bedrooms if possible. As opposed to a hotel room layout with just 2 beds in one room.

Oy. Thanks for the links. It looksl like it's going to cost like $4000 for a month though, so that's not so great for me. Maybe I will end up just staying with my friends...

I found a place called The Forest that can do a furnished 2 bedroom for 1 month for $1985 including tax, pet rent, utilities, etc. That might be a good option. I will keep looking.

AirBNB has a couple of houses in the range of $400/night.

Many of the long-term hotels have two bedroom suites, and the pet fee is a flat $50 or $75 for the duration. What's more, many of them serve breakfast seven days, and dinner four or five nights. So it's less expensive than it seems. Staybridge Suites, and I suspect others, have discounts for medical rate, for Duke I think, etc. Staybridge Suites also provides laundry at no extra charge. (This is the only long-term stay place I'm familiar with, that's why I keep naming them. And they were good. I am sure others are too.)

We rented from this property management company when we moved here 2 years ago, and needed 3-4 month fully furnished rental.

Raleigh, NC - Temporary Furnished Homes, Short-term Rentals, Corporate Housing

Their properties may be too far for you but you can always ask if they know of other companies closer to Durham.

Our other option was Homewood Suites.
