I like this version a lot better. I don't understand some of the choices. I have been in Pierre, South Dakota and the only things positive are safety and low unemployment. The winters are so severe and there is so little to do, you wouldn't stay there unless you had a job and family.
Supposedly there was once talk of making Anchorage the state capital of Alaska because Juneau is so isolated from the rest of the state. You have to take a ferry to get there from Anchorage.
Interesting how it ended up #1. But then again these kind of lists flip-flop all the time.
Interesting, I lived outside of Columbia for 4 years and would rate Columbia above Raleigh. Goes to show how subjective things can be. Raleigh is much more progressive but I liked the small town feel of Columbia.
That's because it is relatively small. A city population of <130k, and a metro under 800k. The county Columbia is in has <400k.
Weird list. I would imagine the major city type of capitals (Think Austin, Denver, Boston) would take the top of the list, or even somewhere like Madison. Raleigh is certainly much better than Frankfort, Springfield, Jefferson City, Harrisburg, or Trenton, but I would have it somewhat lower on the list.
Boston is best, then St. Paul, then Denver, then Madison, then Annapolis.
