Good Morning

Family and I will be spending a night in the Cary area and are looking for recommendations for family friendly restaurants that are not chains. Our children are good eaters so we are not limited to pizza and burgers although they would enjoy that.

We have been watching this area for a while and have visited numerous times in hopes of a relocation within the year!!! (Yes we know we need jobs!)

Thanks for your responses!

This area in general is very family friendly and aside from bars, I can't think of many restaurants that I wouldn't take the kids.

For a fun burger place, check out Corbett's in Cary. We go there more than I like to admit lol. If you guys like Vietnamese, Taste in Morrisville is great. Tons of fantastic Indian restaurants in Cary thanks to our large Indian population. Rancho Grande is a great little taqueria in Cary.

You might also try Deans Seafood Grill, if you like seafood.

Or, Lugano, if you like Italian.

Both in the Preston Corners plaza off NW Cary Parkway.

Lucky 32 seems to be popular with people checking out the area (does 2 locations a chain make?) Southern flair with locally-sourced ingredients.

But when you say "family friendly," what exactly are your expectations?

Also, if you want very casual and a different take on pizzas, Patrick Jane's has great flatbread-style pizzas with fresh ingredients.

Wow We need to stay longer!!!!! these all look like GREAT options!!!

When I say chain, I mean we are not really into the TGIF's, Ruby Tuesday type food.....

Anyone want to remind me how awesome the area is!!! We have soon to be elementary aged children and from all the research we have done, it just seems like a fantastic area to raise a family and for the in laws to be retired in...

You've gotten some good expectations, but they range from feeding a family of four from $20 to over $100, and all sorts of foods.

If you can give a budget, and a general guideline (sit-down vs fun and fast, ethnic or not, etc...)

"my" idea of a family-friendly restaurant with adventurous eaters would be Bosphorus in DT Cary. The service is slow (in a good way, they don't rush you), prices are decent and the food is great. Turkish/Mediteranian food, and family owned and operated.

Depending on your kids, bars are also very family friendly (Hibernian for Irish, Train Station is under the adult nudie bar, but serves a good burger, Woody's has great wings, etc.)

I also like several of the "ethnic" places in Chatham Square. Good Mexican, Indian, etc...

Oh, and a GREAT place to take the kids is the newly opened Mami Nora's (local chain, with only three locations), excellent Peruvian Chicken with family portion options.

I enjoy Lucky 32. They use local ingredients have a seasonal menu and the food is very good. They have a kid menu and I feel comfortable taking my kids there. You can certainly have them eat off the regular menu if the kids menu is too generic. They are a southern kitchen and you will find shrimp and grits as well as chicken and waffles on the menu. We recently tried their Sunday Brunch, this was also excellent.

Other family friendly non-chains - I would try some BBQ while you are here. Smokey BBQ Shack in Morrisville is great. Danny's is a local chain with a location in Cary, they are good.

haha you should check out my neck of the woods in Cary. Walking distance to Trader Joe's, a Chinese supermarket, a local Irish pub, the local ice cream chain (Goodberry's), Patrick Jane's (mentioned above and very tasty), a locally-owned butcher, and much much more We're even easy biking distance to the assigned elementary school which is really nice.
