Any of the Wake County recycling centers would likely take it. You can confirm that before making the drive: Waste & Recycling

Check with WakeFreecycle. Someone can use it if it is still usable

If the car seat has been in an accident, has been recalled, is in any way damaged, or is past the expiration date, please cut off the straps before disposing.

Sometimes Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby do trade ins for a coupon. You could do that and give the coupon to someone to save them some cash.

Kid to Kid in Crossroads will resell or donate as long as it hasn't been in an accident.

I have two expired carseats sitting in my garage. I know that you have to be careful about how you dispose of them because there are people who will pick up and use an expired carseat without knowing/caring that it is expired. I have been saving mine to use as a trade in for the 20% off coupon at Babies R Us. They do their trade in event twice per year.

An FYI for the group, if you have an expired CPS or one that has been involved in a crash, in addition to cutting the straps before disposal, we recommend you damage the seat in such a way it can not be re-used, too many times have we seen children in car seats with no straps that have been replaced with rope or bungee cords. This advise is if you use a public accessible dumpster or curbside pickup, if the seat is taken to a recycling center or landfill, it can be simply tossed in.

I've been on the lookout for this but haven't seen it advertised. Any ideas when/if it will happen again?

I'm happy to recycle them as well. How do I know if they are actually recycled or just thrown into a landfill?
