i'm a new transplant here in nc---what are these GIANT RED ANTS??-or what ever. how do you get rid of them--have seen a few and they could carry the house away..lol

It may have been a cow killer ant which is actually a wasp.

Exclamation Giant red ants

I don't know, but I just killed a red/orange ant about ten times the size of your standard ant, and that's no lie. It completely freaked me out!

We used to call them fire ants. I don't think they will bother you if you don't bother then.

Black ants are just as bad though. I was walking in my parent's yard a couple years ago and stepped in a bunch of black ants. They were all over my legs, socks, shoes, etc. It happened so quick. It was horrible. A couple days later, I started having really bad reactions. I ended up having to go to the doctor and getting put on Steroids.

Probably a Mutillidae, aka velvet ant or cow killer, actually a wasp.
