Presently, we have AT&T's 700 minutes family plan (2 lines). Dumb phone, no data or text and pay about $83 a month. We'd like to get a smartphone with data for the primary line. With AT&T, we'll add $15 for their 200 mb data plan bringing the total about 100 bucks.
How's T-mobile coverage in NC? (RDU and Charlotte area). They seems to have cheaper plans with unlimited talk, text & web.
My intitial advice is skip the 200mb plan. That would be very easy to exceed without even thinking about it. Have you looked at Verizon? Consensus has it they are the best service in town. I have had great service with them for several years, but never tried the others.
Terrible if you're going to west Cary, west of 55. I can only use my cellphone in a few select spots in my home, and even still, the connection is static-y. Phone calls gets dropped when I drive through a certain part of I-40 in RTP and a part of Maynard Road. Otherwise it is ok.
We've been with t-mobile since last year and have had no problems. We travel to other states and all is good. My husband has prepaid unlimited talk, data, and text for $50. After getting a taste of a huge cancellation fee due to unemployment, 2-year contract no thank you! He just got a nicer phone for $50. The smartphones were about $100 and up I think. I also had t mobile in NJ years ago and loved them then. Never any dropped calls, static, etc. I hated that they weren't in this market when we moved here (phone was roaming) so I switched to a local carrier. Eventually that local carrier became t-mobile.
My wife and I have had T-Mobile prepaid plans since we moved here 5 years ago. We have no problems with coverage. We live down south of Lake Wheeler, I work in RTP, wife works near Capital and 440. I get a $90 phone card with 1000 minutes and it lasts me 9 or 10 months. Wife buys a $25 card every 2-3 months. No data for either of us.
Was the service bad in n. Raleigh or was there another reason you dropped them??
I dropped T-mobile mainly because of the poor coverage in this area.
I had a HTC sensation phone which is supposed to be one of the best phones available on the market. However, It would be my lucky day if i can get connected to the internet for more than 5 minutes per day without getting disconnected. Inside my neighborhood, I had to use Wifi calling to make phone calls because of the poor signal from T-mobile's own network.
A saleman in Best Buy told me that T-mobile's coverage in NC in general is way worse than the other major cell phone companies. that is the very reason why Best Buy does not carry T-mobile phone at all. You have to take his statement with a grain of salt, but it does say something about the T-mobile's coverage in NC in some aspects.
I have T Mobile and have had it for years. I live in North Raleigh and very seldom have any problems.
Hubby has Verison (his company pays for his phone) and he is happy with it.
