This will probably turn out to be a dumb question, but here goes anyway!

I'm going out of town this weekend and promised a friend I'd bring some Indian beer along. He's looking for something like Yeti, Kingfisher or Taj Mahal. Would this beer typically be carried by Indian grocers, or do I need to find a beer/wine shop that carries a lot of imported beers? I'm trying to be as efficient as possible in acquiring this beverage.

Thanks in advance!

They sell King Fisher and Taj Mahal at World Market ( I buy a 6 pack every year for DH for his birthday!) Not sure about the other one though. We shop at a lot of Indian stores in Cary. Some sell alcohol, but many do not. You'd have to call and ask because I really don't remember which ones do. Patel Brothers just moved into a nice, new larger location this week, so it couldn't hurt to call them and ask!

Thanks for the info - it's helpful. I suspected that not all Indian groceries would have a liquor license. I'm hoping I can find Yeti, only because my friend didn't think I'd be able to. :-)

I would be cautious about buying beer at World Market. The stores that I was familiar with in north Dallas were very lax in their handling of beer. It was stored at room temperature under fluorescent lights and often sat for months on the shelves. I tried a few different times and all were oxidized and/or skunked.

I don't know about this area, but in FL TotalWine carried Indian beers. Also, you may try calling Sam's Quik Shop in Durham, but I don't know if they would have it.

I would 2nd a call to Sam's Quik Shop in Durham. It's a great go-to place for hard to find beers.

In Raleigh, I would call the new Tasty Beverage, or the Seven Even (aka, the beer store) on Hillsborough St.

Not exactly Indian Beer, but Trader Joes carries Dogfish India Brown Ale (and two of their IPA's too). Very good selections. Perhaps a nice addition to King Fisher or Taj for a side by side comparison?

Thanks, it looks like Total Wine does have Taj Mahal and Kingfisher but it's not too convenient to me in SW Cary. I called Sam's Quik Shop and they have Kingfisher. It's a start!

Peace Street market in Raleigh might have them. The owner is either Pakistani or Afgahni and might have an opinion of beer in that area of the globe.

I know they'll have Taj Mahal and Kingfisher at least.
