The peaches are great. So's the corn, watermelon, blueberries...

But the tomatoes are out of this world wonderful. I bought a bunch at 99 cents/pound and am busy making tomato soup, BLTs, tomato pie...

The German Johnson heirloom tomatoes are about twice the price but so tasty.

No comparison to the imitation tomatoes sold at the grocery store.

Maybe it's because I've spent the past twenty summers up north. But these tomatoes are knock-your-socks-off delicious. I need to find more recipes.

if you're getting good tomatoes for 99 cents/pound, you should can them (but not the GJs, because they don't have enough acid).

Tomato and cucumber salad - dice up both, add some salt, pepper, the juice of a freshly squeezed lemon, a little bit of olive oil and if you have it on hand, parsely. Delicious!

NC 'maters are the best!

Slice 'em, put a slice of fresh mozarella on top, drizzle some olive oil with garlic, sprinkle a touch of basil and enjoy!

They really are wonderful this time of year. I grow my own and just got a wonderfully large delicious crop of them. I like to make homemade salsa with cilantro, jalapenos (also from my garden) garlic, onion and lime juice! SO refreshing!
PatRoy, do you have room to grow your own? They're pretty easy and don't much TLC.

Yum! I love that salad, except I make it with vinegar instead of the lemon and olive oil. Gives it a lovely kick! Now I'm getting hungry
