It's that time again: need new glasses.

Can anyone recommend a really good optometrist in the Raleigh area? I've been using Johnson Optometric in Garner for quite a while. They're good and I have no real beef with them, but I'd really like to find someone different.

I'm diabetic and would need complete diabetes-related screenings, as well. Also, chances are I'll be using Zenni Optical for the actual prescription, so would like to avoid doctors that balk at that.

Dr Timothy miller next to Lenscrafters in North Hills has been great for years.

He has no bias against firms like eyebuydirect or zenni.

I am diabetic, too, and use Dr. Stephannie Griffin on Durant Road (aka North Raleigh Family Eyecare). Love her!

I realize this thread is 7 years old, but is Dr. Miller still practicing? I can't find info on him anywhere!

Dr Miller is long gone. He was great.

The Lenscrafters in North Hills now has great doctors and will work with insurance and only charge for the refraction if your insurance will cover the diabetic part of the exam.

We don't deal with diabetes, but DH has had detached retinas. When I told His retinal specialist at Duke that I saw Dr Catherine Mauro for my annual optometrist visit, he told us that as long as he saw HER every year, there was no need to come in to see him again. He cautioned us that his a approval was for Dr Mauro, not someone elsr.

I'd call that a pretty darn good recommendation. We think she's great (and I have specific issues that make it difficult to correct my vision).

Do a search here, and you'll find several recommendations for her. Her office is at the Durham Costco (NOT Raleigh), and her prices are reasonable. No need to be a Costco member.
